Does your laptop get too hot to keep on your lap?
This is most likely why

This is a laptop fan cover with attached heatsink completely clogged with dust
This a common problem with laptops. Dust and debris clogg the heatsink blocking the airflow causing the laptop to overheat. This will eventually cuse the solder on usually the video chip to fail cusing the display to show only blackscreen rendering your laptop useless. This can be prevented by disassembling and cleaning your laptop with compressed air about once a year. I charge $90.00 to disassemble and clean laptops and I also replace the old thermmal pads and thermal compound with Artic Silver Brand thermal compound.
If you have already had heat damage it can be fixed, but BEWARE of a process called "reflowing" the video chip solder it works but in my experience it is only a temporary fix. "Reballing" the video chip solder is a permanent fix.
I am current in the process of purchasing reballing equipment and hope to be able to offer this service soon.
